Foods Naturally Rich in Resveratrol

Some of the most popular, natural snack foods contain the element Resveratrol which has been proven to increase healthy functioning in several areas of the body. You have most likely indulged in quite a few of the foods that are full of Resveratrol without even being aware of it.

More and more is being learned about Resveratrol and the positive health benefits that result when we ingest it. But because studies, although extensive, have not been performed on humans, it is recommended that the intake be in the form of its natural state, by consuming foods that are rich in Resveratrol like the ones that follow here.

Red Grapes

Red grapes are shown to have the highest amount of Resveratrol because the dark colored variety, in particular, contains a very high level of the element. And even though there are amounts of Resveratrol in the stalk, seeds and vines of the grape plant, the highest amounts are actually contained in the skin of the fruit. This is good news for wine lovers because red wine actually also has a very high content due to the fact that the longer the grapes ferment in their skin during the wine process, the higher the level of Resveratrol will be as a result. White wine also contains levels of Resveratrol, but because the skins are removed from the grapes to make white wine, the levels are lower. You will get between one half to a little over one milligram of Resveratrol in each 5 ounce glass of red wine, depending on the variety and vineyard process.

Peanuts

Peanuts are not only a good source of protein, but another high content source of Resveratrol. Additionally, it is a food that is easily accessible to all age groups. An average serving is about 1 ounce which would equal either a small handful or two tablespoons of peanut butter. But about one cup of peanuts is recommended to get the most beneficial amount of Resveratrol.

Berries

Another popular food rich in Resveratrol that is perfect for both children and adults are several varieties of berries. Blueberries, raspberries and cranberries have been studied, as well as several other types in the Vaccinium family – shallow rooted plants that are most commonly cultivated for their edible fruit. The basic consensus is that even though juices and other processed items made from these berries contain levels of Resveratrol, the same goes for them as does for the grape – the highest levels are contained in their natural state so raw, whole fruits and/or unfiltered juices would be the best choice. And studies are actually being performed to discover new ways of increasing the Resveratrol level in these fruits.

Other Sources

Other plants that contain levels of Resveratrol include the eucalyptus, spruce, white pine, Japanese knotweed and lily. So, for example, teas that incorporate any of these in their natural state would be a few additional choices as well.
